Scribe success at the ABDA awards

Scribe’s design department shone brightly at the annual Australian Book Designers Associations’s (ABDA) Awards held in Melbourne last Friday night.

Scribe was shortlisted for a record six titles, and took home five awards— including two of the major awards of the night.

Allison Colpoys was shortlisted for three of the four covers in the Best Designed Non-Fiction Book of the Year category, but it was her striking cover for Oliver Mol's Lion Attack! that took out the prize. Allison then went on to win the Best Children's Illustrated Book of the Year prize for her design work on her picture-book debut, The Underwater Fancy-Dress Parade.

Laura Thomas, Scribe’s new Senior Designer, won Best Designed Literary Fiction Book of the Year with her beautiful work on Abigail Ullman's Hot Little Hands from her time at Penguin (just pipping Allison at this post with her shortlisted Scribe title, Peggy Frew’s Hope Farm).

They then both went on to win their respective categories in the Designer's Choice part of the evening (as voted for by ABDA members on the night) for Best Children's/YA Cover of the Year and Best Adult Cover of the Year.

Scribe's Art Director, Miriam Rosenbloom, says: ‘This recognition is a testament to the brilliant creativity of Scribe’s designers.
