Scribe acquires little big book of the fair

Scribe has acquired ANZ rights to one of the Frankfurt Book Fair’s shortest titles that was also one of the biggest books of the fair. The agent rapidly licensed rights around the world (including to Scribner in North America and Canongate in the UK), and Scribe acquired ANZ rights at a spirited auction against several local publishers.

The title is The Gentle Way of Swedish Death Cleaning: how to make your loved ones’ lives easier and your own more pleasant, by Swedish author Margareta Magnusson, who describes herself as being aged ’between 80 and 100’.

Scribe’s publisher, Henry Rosenbloom, describes Swedish Death Cleaning as ‘charming, calming, and wise — a wonderful way to learn about unburdening yourself of stuff as you age, and unburdening your children and friends at the same time’. Swedish Death Cleaning is lightly illustrated with line drawings by the author, and Scribe will publish it in 2017.
