RIP Hans Keilson

Scribe is saddened by the news that Hans Keilson passed away on May 31, 2011.

The Dutch-German author died at the age of 101 in hospital in Holland. Hans Keilson was born in Germany but, following the Nazis' rise to power, was forced to move to the Netherlands before the outbreak of World War II. An award-winning psychiatrist, he was particularly renowned for specialising in the traumatic effects of the Holocaust on Jewish survivors.

Keilson’s fiction was recently rediscovered when the The New York Times praised his work in 2010. Critic Francine Prose called Keilson a ‘genius’ and one of the world's best writers. She described his books The Death of the Adversary and Comedy in a Minor Key as masterpieces.

In 2009, on his 100th birthday, Mr Keilson was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Scribe has just published Comedy in a Minor Key. We will be publishing two more of Keilson's books -- his memoirs, and another of his novels, Life Goes On -- over the next two years.
