Scribe acquires The Endling by Keely Jobe

Scribe is thrilled to announce the acquisition of The Endling by Keely Jobe.

On an isolated mountaintop, a small feminist community is losing steam. Mila is trying to keep the women together despite the dwindling numbers and ideological rifts, while deeper in the bush, Frankie, an ailing recluse and Mila’s aunt, lives separate from the other women with her dog Chicken Midnight. Nearby, an orchid endling nears death and the subsequent extinction of its species. As Frankie gets progressively unwell and guarded about her condition, the women in the community mysteriously fall pregnant. When Mila gives birth to the only boy, the hardline separatist politics of the community are put to the test.

Keely Jobe is a writer of fiction and nonfiction living on the east coast of Lutruwita/Tasmania with her partner and two staffies. Her work has appeared in The Monthly, Island Magazine, Australian Geographic, and Cosmos. She has a PhD in English and Creative Writing from the University of Tasmania and is the nonfiction editor at Island Magazine. The Endling is her first novel.

The Endling will be published in 2026.
