Netflix Unveils First Look at Upcoming Limited Series Apple Cider Vinegar inspired by the book The Woman Who Fooled the World by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano.
Netflix, in collaboration with See-Saw Films and Picking Scabs, have debuted a first look of Apple Cider Vinegar, a limited series set to premiere globally in 2025, inspired by the book The Woman Who Fooled the World by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano (Scribe, 2017).
Directed by Jeffrey Walker (The Clearing, The Artful Dodger, Modern Family) and created by acclaimed writer Samantha Strauss (The End, Nine Perfect Strangers), the series dives into the origins of Instagram-fueled wellness culture and the unexpected rise and fall of an empire built on deception.
Set at the birth of Instagram, Apple Cider Vinegar follows two young women who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, influencing their global online communities along the way. All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.
This is a true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down.
The cast of notable names includes previously announced stars Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick, Unbelievable), Alycia Debnam-Carey (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Fear the Walking Dead), Aisha Dee (The Bold Type), Tilda Cobham-Hervey (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart), Ashley Zukerman (Succession), and Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin). Joining them are Susie Porter (Irreverent), Matt Nable (Last King of the Cross), Phoenix Raei (The Night Agent), Chai Hansen (The 100), Richard Davies (Offspring), Essie Davis (The Babadook, Game of Thrones), Kieran Darcy-Smith (Mr Inbetween), and Catherine McClements (Return to Paradise).
Apple Cider Vinegar is Executive Produced by See-Saw Films’ Liz Watts, Helen Gregory, Emile Sherman, and Iain Canning; Picking Scabs’ Samantha Strauss, Louise Gough and Kaitlyn Dever. The series is produced by Yvonne Collins and is co-executive produced by Simon Gillis and Jeffrey Walker. The writing team is led by Samantha Strauss, who along with Anya Beyersdorf (The Twelve, Fake), and Angela Betzien (Total Control) have crafted a rich narrative that blends drama, tension and intrigue.
Shot on-location in Melbourne with support from VicScreen through their Victorian Production Fund, the limited series will be available exclusively on Netflix in 2025.
An updated edition of The Woman Who Fooled the World will be available in February 2025 to tie in with the Netflix release.
