Behind the Beautiful Forevers, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Katherine Boo, is a non-fiction finalist in the US National Book Awards. The prize, which was established in 1950, aims to enhance the public’s awareness of exceptional books written by Americans, and to increase the popularity of reading in general. The winner will be announced on 14 November.
Katherine’s book has also been shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize, which is the UK’s most prestigious non-fiction award. The chair of the judges said of the shortlist: ‘These are significant books which have the ability to change our view of the world and which we believe will make a lasting contribution to their genres.’ The winner will be announced on 12 November.
