Scribe is a trade publishing house (that is, we publish books for general readers that are made available nationally through the book trade). Accordingly, we only consider proposals for books of this nature.
If you are a non-fiction writer not represented by a literary agent, we are only able to consider unsolicited submissions if you have a demonstrated background of writing for general readers (for example, by having had books published by trade publishers, or by having had articles (not letters) published in newspapers or in journalistic outlets such as Good Weekend, or The Monthly).
If you are a fiction writer not represented by a literary agent, we are only able to consider unsolicited submissions if you have a demonstrated background of publishing for general readers (for example, by having had books published by trade publishers, or by having short stories published in literary journals or magazines), or if you have received awards or commendations for your writing, or if you have a recommendation from a published author.
Please note that, at present, we do not accept unsolicited poetry, writing for children or young adults, or submissions for New Australian Stories.
If you and your work qualify for submission, please do not call, but email info@scribepub.com.au with
You’ll need to be frank with us about the submission history of your manuscript, and to tell us if your manuscript is under simultaneous consideration by other publishers.
We’ll usually respond to your email proposal within eight weeks. If we decide that we’d like to see more, we’ll let you know precisely how much we’d like to read, and in what form.
